Sara McMann, an olympic silver medalist in wrestling and UFC bantamweight fighter currently ranked at number 6 for 135-pound female fighters according to Unified Women’s MMA Rankings as of May 1st, was recently interviewed by MMA Hour.

McMann has been attempting to find a fight, and with Cat Zingano injured and Sarah Kaufman unresponsive and according to McMann has refused to fight her in the past, she has issued an ‘open challenge’ for the July UFC Card. Even if the opponent is unranked, or does not make sense in rankings, McMann is willing to use the fight as exposure and experience. Two possible opponents could be Amanda Nunes or Alexis Davis.

McMann also commented on the UFC Reebok deal, commenting on the gender disparity with the new tier system. She states that 86% of the women mma fighters are in the first tier making only $2500, and the entire strawweight division, except for champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Paige VanZant with a personal deal with Reebok, are only making $2500 In addition, the majority of the batamweight division, with the exceptions being Meisha Tate, and batamweight champion Ronda Rousey will also be in the first tier. Only 1 woman has over 10 fights, and only 5 women have over 5 fights. McMann believes the deal “does look discrimintory against an entire gender”. She will be talking to a Title Nine lawyer and following up with the UFC on this issue.

Sara McMann is planned to be fighting July 15th, opponent still unknown.
